What is my purpose in life?
How would you live differently if you believed God intentionally designed you to impact others, that is, designed you with a purpose?
Hindu philosophy calls this purpose or goal Dharma; Buddhists call It Nirvana;
Muslims call it Ibadah and in Jewish traditions the purpose of life is called Tikkun Olam. Christianity calls our purpose Vocation/Calling. All in light of the Divine.
I believe that each of us is designed by God for the purpose to further God's kingdom here on earth. Each one of us is given varied gifts and talents to fulfill our purpose. We are all born into a community and have the innate ability to impact those around us. "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace" ~ 1 Peter 4:10 or as Robert Leo Byrne, author and columnist put it "The purpose of life is a life of purpose ".
So, I ask myself, what is my purpose in life? I feel it is to choose actions based on who I am in relation to the Divine Spirit. It is to be called to share my understanding and experiences of God with anyone who will listen and to serve those I may have impacted with love and compassion. Therefore, as we get to know who we are, and we figure out our passions, our gifts, we get to understand what we were created to be.
How would I live differently with this knowledge? I would first try to get to understand myself in light of God's plans because God's purpose for me is greater than my own plans. To do this, I need to silence my mind and welcome the Spirit into my soul. I can then seek direction from those who are further along on their spiritual journey. I listen closely and reflect carefully on what I learn from others, from my environment and life. I also ask for inspiration from God who knows me better than I know myself. I would then act and behave accordingly with the joy of knowing I'm fulfilling my purpose in life.
Therefore, my aim, my goal is to choose the road that better leads me to union with my Creator. As Charles Dickens said, "the best way to lengthen our days is to walk steadily with a purpose".

Funny you should write on this subject because I was seriously thinking of my vocation Saturday when Father Chris was talking about the deacon vocation in his homily on Saturday morning. Imagine how many women can serve and be served if women were welcomed into this ministry! There’s still hope! Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
ReplyDeleteI know and agree. Women in general are under represented in ministry and in leadership roles. I really appreciate your feedback ππ
ReplyDeleteCindy, I know God brought you into my life for a reason. You made such a wonderful impact on me. I often think about our visits. You were the older sister I never had a chance to have until us meeting!❤️
